love you all, Summer

Last Sunday afternoon and evening the cousins and the first cousins - once removed (thanks for checking that out Eric) got to hang out with each other and we all had such a good time. We went to Eric and Carma's ward. The kids went to Sunday school together and then we went to their cute home afterward and ate some incredible chocolate chip cookies Carma made. The kids are all the same age and became instant friends.
Except for that most adorable baby Ivy. I didn't get a good photo of her but she is gorgeous.
I got to hold her in church which is my favorite.
I love holding babies. The middle kids had a ball. They talked about the Pinewood Derby, quoted movies, told silly jokes, played hide and seek with the little ones and did lots of laughing and playing. Fun fun.

These two were like peas in a pod. They played games, talked about school and vacations. They are at that sweet age that is tipping into teens but still lovely and pure. They are so polite and...I could go on and on about how wonderful.
(I'm rooting for a possible college room mate situation here, perfect right?)

The four year olds were like instant twins. They were just in their own little world, talking, giggling, singing, pretending and playing. They didn't really even talk to us that night.

Jonathan and Carma lived next door at BYU and did a little 'remember so-and-so'ing' which is always so fun and fascinating. Then we heard some good stories about the adventures of a lawyer and chatted about life and the good times we are all enjoying.

It was such a highlight of the trip for me. We are hoping they come to us for a beach trip this summer so we can spend a lot more time with their Fabulous family.

Steve gave me the disk of all the photos from Grandpa's slide show, and the resolution on this particular one isn't large enough--I'm hoping to be able to print a 8x10 of this photo but the file I have makes it really blurry enlarged that big. I don't know if someone has it scanned so it can enlarge that big, or the original they could mail me and I could mail back to them. I loved this one and hope to be able to have a big print.

So my first assignment for this sem. in my 3D class was a found object project. I needed to find an object and create something out of it....changing its identity, form, shape, use, etc...

So off to the DI I went to find some junk in hopes to gain some inspiration to what I was going to create. I want to say, that the DI is so wonderful and I am bless to have 3 so close to me for those times of need because you never know when you are gunna need a last min. ugly Christmas Sweater, a Bedazzled rope belt, a Molly Ringwald from the Breakfast Club outfit, or simply some mustard yellow 90's heals (b/c those are a must for any and every ladies Wardrobe). And for this case a found object for an Art project!!

I found some sweet old vintage-y books. Then I came up with idea of cutting the pages into something. I found this beautiful 1950's green with blue graphics book. I fell in love with it and bought it for a whopping $2!!

I then pulled out the handy dandy sketch book and started sketching some ideas to what I was going to cut out. As I was sketching all I could think of was lovely Grandpa that passed away 1.5 weeks ago. So with him being on my mind the last week I thought I would carve him into the pages of this lovely book. I drew and cut out the pic. of him standing by his old car, it's just a classic, handsome, picture of him; and classic and handsome were few of the many words to describe Grandpa.

This project is a book that represents a story of a life that is now history, a story of a wonderful man that was loved by so many, who left a legacy and a life that created many stories. So his book is finished and is put away on a shelf to rest. But when needed will be taken off that shelf to be read, smile, cry, laugh, and love!! I love you so much Grandpa and miss you xoxo....! Everyone Enjoy!

Grandma Kelly Cake Glaze Demo

I told Barb we'd put it online for those that weren't there.

1/4 c. butter

1 c. white sugar

1/4 c. whole milk

1 heaping Tablespoon baking cocoa

2 T corn syrup

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Combine everything in a medium saucepan. Over medium heat, stir continually until everything is melted, the cocoa may seem lumpy, that is alright--keep stirring.

When the glaze begins boiling, start timing it for exactly 50 seconds, stirring constantly the whole time. Remove from heat immediately and stir until the boil "relaxes", about 20 more seconds. Pour over cool cake right away, spread and devour.

**No low fat, lower calorie substitutions can be used!!!

The schedule for the day will go as follows:

10:50 am - Family prayer

11:00 am - Funeral Service

12:00 pm - Internment at Crown Hill 8500 E. 29th Ave, Denver CO

1:00 pm - Luncheon for the family back at the chapel

Grandpa in my eyes. A man of few words, but the words he expressed were soft and kind. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, veteran, farmer, golfer, taco bell advocate, bronco’s fan, classic gentleman, sweet loving man and who could resist those big strong hands. When we were younger me and my sister would always ask him to tickle our backs…those were good tickles.

I never knew anyone that could eat their entire meal all mixed together. There is no other way of eating ice cream and cake unless it’s drowned in milk. He always taught me to finish everything on my plate, but then cleaned it for me when I couldn’t.
Grandpa was just grandpa, always there when you needed him. Never complained although he wasn’t afraid to be blunt about things. In fact the last words I heard him say, in the hospital the male nurse came in and ask “how are you doing?’ Grandpa looked at him moving the oxygen mask away from his mouth and said, “how do you think I’m doing?” We all chuckled knowing that’s grandpa.

In his later years I really saw the joy he had in being around his family. I regret not going to visit him more. I should feel blessed that I have always lived so close to him and grandma my whole life. In Missouri and now here in St.George, but also feel guilt at the same time for being so close and not spending more time. It’s just one of those things that happened so quickly and unexpectedly. Especially in grandpa’s case.
I feel most for dear grandma, but if anyone can make it’s her. I have never known a stronger woman then grandma. Last year when grandma was diagnosed with cancer and we thought it was her last day’s grandpa was there to take care of her. I have a friend who said “it’s the job of the men to take care of their woman.” Grandpa took care of grandma, got her healthy and now his job was done. We knew his day would come and it’s sad it had to come so soon and unexpected.

Grandpa was a loyal great man and his presence will be missed so dearly! I think for me I am comforted that he never had to suffer and knowing we’ll all get to be with him again and getting to see him in his better years will truly be an amazing time! “Boy you said it”-Jim Elwood Kelly, We love you!-Staci
